Leonie Whitton Studied Fine Art at Huddersfield College and Newcastle University. She then spent two years painting and teaching in Italy before returning to England to become a full-time Senior Lecturer at Falmouth College of Arts in Cornwall. She became interested in film making and studied film and animation techniques during a six month sabbatical to Hornsey College of art in 1976, but returned to painting and exhibiting in 1980. She has been visiting lecturer at Chelsea School of Art, York University and Leeds College of Art. She has also taught on private painting courses and workshops. In 1988 she spent some time teaching and as Artist in Residence at Prahan Campus, Victoria College, Melbourne, Australia.

She resigned her post as Lecturer in charge of painting at Falmouth in 1989 and moved to Italy where she became joint owner and organiser of Il Collegio Artists Retreat. During the past few years she has been studying the fresco painting and sinopie of the Italian Quatrocento and developing methods for its use in contemporary wall decoration. Her work has been exhibited in the U.K., America, Australia and Europe. She is represented in public, private and corporate collections.
